Harrogate Spa Society is a non-profit organisation advancing Harrogate as a living spa town.
We are concerned with the past, present and future of Harrogate as a spa town, and with how its extraordinary inheritance of water, landscape, health, culture and place can continue to shape contemporary life.
Our work brings together people, knowledge and practice around a shared ambition: to carry Harrogate’s spa culture into a new age.
Bringing Harrogate’s spa culture back to life.
We will grow a programme of experiences and participation that connects people with the town, its landscapes and one another, reviving the historic Cure.
In doing so, it creates the public life of Harrogate as a living spa.

Through place development, stewardship and new forms of commons, we work to strengthen sense of place, reconnect landscapes and nurture a deeper relationship between people and their surroundings.

Bringing together the research, collections and knowledge through which Harrogate can better understand itself.
Historic material sits alongside contemporary research, mapping and documentation, recovering knowledge, growing connections and creating new ways of understanding the town and its place within the wider spa phenomenon.
This shapes the understanding and direction that under pins our work and also provides material for interpretation and exhibtions.

Sarah Kinder
Founder & Creative Director
Sarah is a multidisciplinary creative with a First Class degree in Fine Art and a background spanning galleries, events, styling, photography and creative direction. She has worked at the Royal Academy of Arts and spent more than a decade working closely with painter Ken Howard OBE RA as his muse.
