WORK
Harrogate's spa culture was never contained within a single building or activity. It grew from a relationship between water and landscape, health and pleasure, nature and culture, and between the town and the people who came to experience it.
The Society is interested in what that relationship can mean today.
Brings Harrogate’s spa culture into contemporary life through nature, culture, movement, water, gathering and ideas.
A growing programme of experiences and participation connects people with the town, its landscapes and one another, making the idea of taking the Cure relevant to everyday life again.
In doing so, it creates the public life of Britain’s Living Spa.
Brings Harrogate’s waters, landscapes, buildings and shared spaces into a connected understanding of the spa town.
Through place development, stewardship and new forms of commons, we work to strengthen sense of place, reconnect landscapes and nurture a deeper relationship between people and their surroundings.
It provides the physical and ecological setting for Britain’s Living Spa.
Brings together the research, collections and knowledge through which Harrogate can better understand itself.
Historic material sits alongside contemporary research, mapping and documentation, recovering knowledge, revealing connections and creating new ways of understanding the town and its distinctive spa inheritance.
It provides the knowledge that informs Britain’s Living Spa.
