A home for the Cure
Our vision for Crescent Pavilion and the beginning of Spa Commons.

At the heart of Harrogate's historic spa quarter stands a remarkable little building. Surrounded by the Royal Pump Room, Royal Baths and Royal Hall, the Crescent Gardens Pavilion is one of the town's architectural treasures, yet today it stands without an active public use. We think it deserves a new chapter.
Harrogate Spa Society is developing a proposal to restore the Grade II listed pavilion and establish it as a new home for the Harrogate Cure, our emerging cultural programme bringing together art, nature, health, heritage and discovery.
We imagine a welcoming place, full of curiosity and activity. Somewhere to encounter new ideas, discover the stories of Harrogate's extraordinary waters and landscapes, explore exhibitions, take part in workshops or simply find out what's happening across the town.
A meeting place for artists, researchers, practitioners, residents and visitors. A starting point for walks and experiences through the spa landscape and a space where new conversations and collaborations can take shape.
The pavilion's setting makes it particularly special. From Crescent Gardens, the historic spa landscape unfolds through the Royal Pump Room and Valley Gardens, continuing into Pinewoods and the wider countryside. It is a landscape shaped over centuries by the relationship between water, nature, health and culture. We want to bring that relationship back into everyday experience.
The beginning of Spa Commons
The pavilion is also where we hope to begin putting Spa Commons into practice, our programme exploring the future stewardship, conservation and renewed public life of Harrogate's historic spa estate.

Harrogate possesses an extraordinary inheritance of mineral springs, gardens, buildings and public spaces. Together, they tell the story of a town built around the pursuit of health, discovery and the pleasures of life.
We believe these places have an important part to play in Harrogate's future.
Beginning with Crescent Pavilion offers an opportunity to demonstrate what thoughtful conservation, imaginative programming and long-term stewardship can achieve. A relatively small building could become a home for a much wider programme of cultural activity, reconnecting people with the places and traditions that make Harrogate distinctive.
There is still considerable work ahead. Our proposal is at an early stage and we will be exploring conservation requirements, partnerships, funding and potential arrangements with North Yorkshire Council.
We would love to see the pavilion open again, its windows illuminated, its doors welcoming people into the gardens, and its spaces filled with new ideas, encounters and experiences.
A little building with a remarkable future and perhaps the beginning of something much bigger.
