Harrogate Spa Society is an independent cultural and community organisation working across place, landscape, culture, health and public life.
SPA AS CULTURE
Harrogate developed as a place where health, beauty, pleasure, culture and social life reinforced one another. Its waters, landscapes, gardens, architecture and institutions formed a complete environment for physical restoration, mental renewal, cultural exchange and human connection.
Harrogate Spa Society takes this whole system as its field of work. Through place development, public programmes, stewardship, research and collections, it advances the distinctive culture of the spa and explores what it can contribute to contemporary life.
The Society is not concerned with recreating a former age. It builds from the qualities that made Harrogate exceptional: the union of nature and art, health and pleasure, individual renewal and public life.
